Neighbours, Friends and Families is a public education campaign to raise awareness of the signs of violence against women so that those close to an at-risk woman or an abusive man can help. Neighbours, Friends and Families represents a significant shift in our approach to ending woman abuse. It engages the power of everyday relationships to help keep women and their children safe. You don’t have to be a hero or fix the situation. Caring about the people around us, paying attention to them when there are signs of trouble and responding appropriately can make a big difference. Little things count. Neighbours, Friends and Families has grown over the last 14 years, with campaigns in over 150 communities in Ontario. Our brochures have also been translated into over 15 languages including: French, Arabic, Korea, Chinese, Punjabi, Somali, Vietnamese and more. The Office of Women’s Issues (formally Ontario Women’s Directorate) has generously funded the campaign since November 2005.
Since the inception of our work with the Neighbours, Friends and Families public education campaign and the Make It Our Business workplace education program, we have hired outside evaluators to access our progress in reaching our goals. These reports provide an overview of our progress and a summary of our challenges and our successes.
Make It Our Business provides information and education to help employers and other workplace stakeholders to meet their obligations under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act. According to the Act, employers must prevent and respond to domestic violence in the workplace. Visit website
